Lock Repairs / by Justin Merriman

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers repair fleet crew work to secure a 30-ton miter gate, which acts as the huge doors that allow vessels to enter and exit the lock and that contains water while it raises or lowers to the next river level, to be removed and renovated as part of critical repairs that are being done on the Allegheny River Lock and Dam 2 near Highland Park. The repairs will keep the lock closed from Monday, Sept. 13, to Monday, Sept. 27, as repairs are done on the aging navigation facility.
